Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our engineering services firm.
The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accurate
financial reporting, and supporting the company’s financial strategy. Reporting directly to the CFO,
the Controller will manage an initial team of three accountants and clerks and will be responsible
for maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial records, establishing and improving internal
controls, and contributing to strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts
receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
• Prepare and ensure timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
in accordance with GAAP.
• Properly document all accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure
consistency and regulatory compliance.
• Work closely with external CPA firms on tax preparation and filing processes, as well as
financial statement reviews or audits, as appropriate.
• Assist in the administration and oversight of the company’s 401(k) program, including
preparation for and coordination of annual plan audits.
• Support the development, tracking, and auditing of key performance indicators (KPIs) to
monitor and improve financial and operational performance.
• Identify and lead process improvement initiatives across all accounting and finance
workflows, aiming to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance reporting capabilities.
• Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads to
develop and manage budgets.
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure
accurate financial reporting.
• Manage and develop the accounting team, providing mentorship, training, and performance
evaluations.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems, and lead efforts to
enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Support the CFO in strategic financial initiatives, such as M&A activity, capital allocation
decisions, and long-term financial planning.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings and other statutory
obligations.
• Work from the Company office no less than 4 days per week
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s or advanced degree
preferred).
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
• Experience with Ajera and Deltek accounting platforms is preferred.
• Experience in a project-based environment, such as engineering, construction, or
professional services.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a team, with a hands-on management style.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present financial information to
senior management and stakeholders.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Compensation (i.e. Base Salary) is negotiable and shall be offered commensurate with
experience.
